A laser hair removal course runs over many months: 6 to 10 sessions, 4 to 6 weeks apart. Over that time, many people travel home, go to the beach, move between cities, or start a course in one country and finish it in another.
None of this has to ruin your results. What matters is the timing between sessions, the sun, and what you do with the hair while you are away. This guide covers both situations: travelling during your course here, and continuing a course you started somewhere else.
Why the 4–6 week rhythm matters
Hair grows in cycles. Each session reaches the hairs that are in their growth phase at that moment. The rest are resting, and they come up in the following weeks. Spacing sessions 4 to 6 weeks apart, for every area, means each visit meets a new group of growing hair.
That is why the gap between sessions is the main thing to protect when you travel. The exact date is less important. How a full course works, area by area, is on our laser hair removal in Ho Chi Minh City page.
If a trip makes you late for a session
Coming a little late is not harmful. A gap of a few extra weeks does not undo the sessions you have already had. It can mean missing part of the growth phase you were waiting for, so the course may take a little longer overall.
If you have been away for a long time, Kieu checks how the hair has grown back before the next session and continues from there. You do not start again from the beginning.
The simplest approach is to look at your travel dates when you book, and place the next session either before you leave or soon after you come back.
If you want to come back earlier
Booking closer than four weeks apart before a trip does not speed things up. The new hair has not grown in yet, so there is less for the laser to reach. It is better to keep the gap and move the session to after your trip.
Sun and beach trips during your course
This is the part that needs the most planning. Skin that has been in strong sun is more reactive, and laser on tanned or sunburnt skin is more likely to leave redness, dark patches, or burns.
After a session, use sunscreen on any exposed area every day, and keep the treated skin out of strong sun.
For 48 hours after a session, avoid the pool and the sea.
If you come back tanned or sunburnt, your next session needs to wait at least 2–3 weeks after your last strong sun exposure. Before your first full session, a small test patch is done free of charge.
More detail is in laser hair removal on darker or tanned skin.
Shaving while you are away
Shave only. Waxing, plucking, threading and epilators pull out the root that your next session needs. That includes a wax at a salon on holiday, or an epilator you pack "just for the trip".
Shave the area the day before your next session as usual. If you are flying back the day before, shaving that evening is fine.
Continuing a course you started somewhere else
Many people start in one place and finish in another, because they moved, changed studio, or started at home before coming to Ho Chi Minh City. You can continue here. The course continues from the session you are at, not from the beginning.
Before your first session here, Kieu looks at the hair and skin in the area, checks how it has responded so far, and sets the starting level for your skin and hair. The first session may start more carefully than your last one elsewhere, until she has seen how your skin reacts.
What to tell Kieu before your first session here
Having this ready makes the first visit easier:
which areas you have had done, and how many sessions for each
the date of your last session for each area
how your skin reacted afterwards: nothing, redness for a few hours, or something stronger
whether you have been in strong sun or tanned in the last few weeks
whether you have waxed, plucked or used an epilator since your last session
Your own notes are enough.
Frequently Asked Questions
I missed my session because of a trip. Do I need to start over?
No. A longer gap does not undo the sessions you have had. Kieu checks how the hair has grown back and continues from where you are.
Can I have a session right before a beach holiday?
It is better to leave some time. After a session, the treated skin needs protection from strong sun, and the pool and the sea are off for 48 hours. If you come back tanned, your next session waits at least 2–3 weeks.
I started laser hair removal in another country. Can I continue here?
Yes. Bring the number of sessions you have had and the date of the last one for each area. Kieu checks your hair and skin before the first session here and continues from the session you are at.
