What "tech neck" is, and why younger people have it now

Horizontal neck lines are the two to four lines that run around the front of the neck. They used to be a sign of age. Today, many people notice them in their late 20s or early 30s, especially in side photos or when they look down.

The reason is how we use our neck. Every time you look down at a phone, the skin at the front of the neck folds in the same few places. A few hours a day, every day, for years — the fold starts to stay, like a crease in a piece of paper folded again and again on the same line. People call this "tech neck".

Five small habits that keep neck lines from getting deeper

Bring your screen up to eye level. Hold the phone higher and put your laptop on a stand. This matters most, with or without HIFU.
Put sunscreen on your neck, front, both sides and the back. Sun is what makes neck skin thin fastest.
Take your moisturiser down to the neck. Your face cream is fine; apply it from the bottom up.
Use a lower pillow. If your lines are deeper on one side, it is often the side you sleep on.
Take one side photo every few months, same light, same angle. Neck lines change slowly, and photos show it better than the mirror.
