Laser Glow Facial vs a Spa Facial: What’s Different, and When a Regular Facial Is Enough

There is a spa on almost every street in Ho Chi Minh City, many of them lovely and very affordable. So a fair question I get on WhatsApp is: “What is the difference between your Laser Glow Facial and the facial at the spa near my hotel — and why the price gap?” Both leave your skin looking better after one visit. Both are relaxing. Neither needs downtime.

But they do different things, and you take home different results. Here is an honest comparison — no spa-bashing. There are times a regular facial is enough, or even the better choice, and I will tell you exactly when. There is a side-by-side table at the end.

What a spa facial does for your skin

A typical spa facial includes make-up removal, cleansing, a light exfoliation, steam, sometimes extractions, a face massage, a mask and moisturiser. It all happens on the very top of the skin, with hands and products.

Its big strength is relaxation. Massage boosts circulation, so your face looks rosy; steam and masks make the skin soft and hydrated right away. With clean, careful extractions, your pores also look clearer.

The limit is that products applied by hand mostly stay on the outer layer. Your skin feels soft and fresh for a day or two, then goes back to normal. Think of a facial as a very good wash for your skin: pleasant and useful, but it does not change your tone or texture much. That is not a weakness — it is simply a different job, and a good spa does that job very well.

What a Laser Glow Facial does differently

The Laser Glow Facial at Hugo Beauty has two parts that hands alone cannot do.

First, a gentle laser pass. The laser light warms the upper skin in a controlled way, so the tone looks more even and the surface feels smoother. This is what makes skin look brighter the same day — not just shiny from cream.

Second, a cool serum infusion. A chilled head glides over the skin and helps a hydrating serum go deeper than hands can push it. Skin looks plumper and fresher for a few weeks, not just until tomorrow morning.

In short: a facial cares for the outermost layer, while the Laser Glow goes one step further into the quality of the skin surface — tone, smoothness and hydration.

How each one feels: two kinds of relaxing

At a spa, you relax because of the massage, the essential oils and the soft music. Many people fall asleep, and that is part of the value.

In my studio, the Laser Glow session is quieter, with fewer steps. As the laser passes, you feel small spots of soft warmth. The cool infusion is calm and soothing — most clients say it is their favourite part. There is no 20–30 minute massage, because the goal of the visit is the result on your skin.

If what you need most today is to lie down for 90 minutes and switch off, a spa may suit you better. If what you need is visibly brighter skin for tonight, the Laser Glow is the better fit. Some travellers do both on different days of the same trip.

When a regular facial is enough

Honestly, there are many times you don’t need a laser:

  • Your skin is in good shape and you just want a deep clean and some down time after a busy week.

  • You want extractions and clearer pores — that is a cleansing facial’s job.

  • You just came back from the beach in Phu Quoc or Nha Trang and your skin is tanned or sunburnt. The laser should wait; a gentle hydrating facial is better for now. I explain the waiting times in when a laser facial is safe after a tan.

  • You live in Saigon and want a weekly routine at a lower cost.

In those cases, a clean spa that uses good products is a very good choice.

When the Laser Glow is worth it

  • You have an event, dinner or photo shoot in the next few days and want a glow people can see.

  • You are only in Ho Chi Minh City for a few days and want one visit with a clear result — no course.

  • Your skin looks dull or uneven, or feels a bit rough, even after many facials.

  • You want the fresh, plump look to last a few weeks, not one night.

A face session is 1,000,000 VND (≈ $40), takes about 45–60 minutes, and you can put on light make-up and go straight out.

Can you do both a facial and the Laser Glow?

Yes, but plan the order. If your spa facial included extractions, a peel or strong exfoliation, your skin needs a few days to calm down — message me first so we choose the right day. A gentle facial (cleanse, mask, massage) usually changes nothing.

Many clients also pair the Laser Glow with HIFU in the same visit: they start a longer-term firming plan and leave with a glow for the evening. I wrote about the order and how each step feels in HIFU and the Laser Glow Facial in one visit.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Laser Glow Facial include extractions?

No, there are no extractions in the Laser Glow session. If you have a lot of blackheads or clogged pores to clear, a cleansing facial at a spa is the better choice, and it is best to leave a few days before any laser.

I have oily skin and large pores. Which one should I choose?

If your pores are clogged, a cleansing facial helps first. If your skin is clean but the surface looks rough or the tone is uneven, the Laser Glow helps it look smoother and more even. Send me a photo on WhatsApp and I will tell you honestly which one makes sense.

Is there a face massage during the Laser Glow?

Not a long massage like at a spa. Instead, the cool infusion head glides gently over your skin, which most clients find very soothing — some almost fall asleep.

I had a spa facial yesterday. Can I do the Laser Glow today?

If it was a gentle facial — cleanse, mask, massage — usually yes. If it included extractions, a peel or strong exfoliation, message me first and we will book a day when your skin has fully calmed down.

Not sure whether you need a facial or the Laser Glow?

Send me a make-up-free photo of your skin on WhatsApp and I will give you an honest answer.
